Video on the Net For the Deaf Niche
A new niche boom is helping the deaf population by using video on the internet. CSDVRS is a for profit company with the mission of bringing new technologies – like video on the net – to help the deaf to communicate. Basically, on CSDVRS you can call a number with video and through a third party use either sign language or speaking to communicate with the third party. Think of what all the easy applications and services as simple as vblogs, Youtube, ustream.tv or blogtv.com can do to allow the deaf to instantly communicate with other deaf people or with the non-deaf. All this was not possible 10 years ago. CSDRVS is taking serious steps to bring its technology to the world as it has hired Andy May to be the Chief Marketing Officer. Andy was CEO of Paradyne (now Zhone) and Millennial.net.
On Saturday, June 9, 2007, the Wall Street Journal ran a front page article on “Video, Email Are Boons to the Deaf.” The article pointed out that texting and Blackberrys have opened up real time conversing - “a fourth dimension – time” - for the deaf. The President of Gallaudet experienced video as a much greater tool than he could have imagined. Video is the “medium of the future for deaf people.”
Just think, the lower cost of producing professional video shows for the deaf over the internet only could result in interactive TV talk-shows or other entertainment found only on the internet. These shows could even be advertising supported and profitable. It is a great example of how video on the net can work for a niche group and be profitable.
